What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an increasingly popular and highly advanced way to change the appearance of your smile. It uses a series of clear aligners to gradually and gently move your teeth into more desirable positions, creating your dream straighter smile. All you need to do is wear each set of aligners for 20-22 hours per day, removing them only for eating, drinking and cleaning. You don’t even have to make any drastic changes to your diet or lifestyle!

Let’s get started

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Aesthetic

Invisalign’s clear aligners are virtually invisible when worn and are designed with aesthetics in mind, meaning no one needs to know about your straightening treatment unless you tell them!

Comfortable

Your aligners are custom made using precise digital scans to guarantee a secure and accurate fit, with no metal present to irritate your mouth. Your aligners can also be removed for short periods of time.

Effective

Invisalign is very successful when used for a range of issues, including overcrowded or misaligned teeth and to close gaps. Invisalign cases are also completed in a much faster time than traditional fixed braces.

Innovative

Invisalign uses state-of-the-art modern digital technology in every stage, from the accurate 3D scans and ClinCheck software used in treatment planning to the smart material used to create your aligners.

Middleton St George Emblem
  1. Consultation

At your consultation appointment, we take the time to discuss Invisalign treatment in detail with you, and perform a thorough examination of your teeth. We ensure you are suitable for treatment and begin your treatment plan, including an estimated time frame and cost.
  2. Treatment Planning

We develop your individual treatment plan using accurate digital scans of your teeth. We also use ClinCheck, our innovative virtual software, to show you the series of movements your teeth will go through during treatment, and a preview of your new smile!
  3. Straightening Journey

During your Invisalign treatment, you wear each set of custom made aligners in the series for two weeks before moving on to the next. Your teeth move little by little as you get closer to your final smile. We see you for regular appointments so we can keep an eye on your progress and check you are happy with how everything is going.
  4. Smile!

After you have worn your final set of aligners, your treatment is complete - get ready to start showing off that smile! We give you a final retainer to maintain your results and prevent your teeth from moving out of position again.

Frequently asked questions

  • What are Invisalign aligners made of?

Invisalign uses a flexible thermoplastic material called SmartTrack to make the clear aligners. The innovative material was designed especially for Invisalign and is instrumental in the success of the treatment.

  • How long will my Invisalign treatment take?

The length of your treatment depends on your individual case, and how much movement your teeth have to go through to achieve your goal. In most cases, treatment is completed in 9-18 months. We will be able to give you a clearer idea of your treatment time frame during your initial consultation.

  • Will I have trouble speaking with the aligners in my mouth?

You may find the feel of the aligners strange at first, and your speech may be affected for the first few days, but you will soon get used to it. Soon, you will be talking clearly and confidently again.

  • Why can’t I remove my aligners for longer each day?

You should only remove your aligners for eating, drinking and brushing your teeth to ensure your treatment progress stays on track. If the aligners are left out of your mouth for longer periods of time, your Invisalign treatment will inevitably take longer to reach your dream result.

  • I had fixed metal braces as a child but my teeth have moved since. Can I have Invisalign?

Yes, many Invisalign patients had braces as a child but find their teeth have become crooked again over time due to not wearing a retainer. Invisalign can be used to correct and improve your smile in a discreet and comfortable way.

  • Does Invisalign hurt?

Invisalign treatment as a whole is not painful, but you may experience some discomfort or pressure for the first few days of wearing a new set of aligners. This is temporary and is in fact a sign that your treatment is working as it should. If your discomfort continues beyond a few days, please let your dentist know.

  • What should I do if I lose or break an aligner?

If you lose an aligner, or cannot wear one due to damage, please let us know as soon as possible so we can advise you what to do. In the meantime, you can wear an aligner from your previous set to prevent your teeth from moving too far out of position.
